Fatih Sert

I’m a marine biogeochemist with a background in chemistry, driven by a curiosity about how carbon and nutrient cycles shape marine ecosystems and, ultimately, Earth’s climate.

My research combines field observations, laboratory experiments, and data-driven modelling to unravel the complex processes governing ocean biogeochemistry. Along the way, I’ve developed working knowledge of physical oceanography, marine microbial ecology, and ecosystem modelling, allowing me to connect processes across disciplines.

I enjoy keeping my research diverse. While at work, you can find me on the deck of research vessels collecting samples, in the lab wearing a white coat, or at my desk deep into writing and data analysis. Whether at sea, in the lab, or behind a screen, I’m always looking for new ways to connect the dots and better understand how the ocean works.
